Week 5

This drawing took me 90 minutes.I created the composition using the rule of thirds with the bridge intersecting two of my thirds.I started by creating the outlines of the main areas like the path and the bridge.Once i was happy with my proportions i began to add more detail to the drawing. I tried to recreate the detail within the grassy areas by adding lines to create the general feel and texture to the grass without spending hours on every little detail.I then began to add texture to the bridge and the trees followed by shading these areas.
This was a 20 minute sketch of the viaduct near my house.I tried to add depth to this composition with a foreground, middleground and background running through the arches of the viaduct.I tried to focus on speed with this compostition and as a result the shading came out looking really bad. After sketching in the basic composition i quickly began adding some of the detail on the houses in the foreground then began to shade areas of the picture. There was not enough tonal value given to this picture and the overall result is not pleasing.

Week 4

This was a 15 minute sketch of my bag.It is a material bag and i tried to recreate the texture of the bag by using cross hatching.I started out by drawing the outline of the bag and the strap.I then began to shade the bag starting off with the lighter tones and then adding in the darker tones.I finished the picture off by drawing the cast shadow for the bag so that i didnt look like it was a floating object.

Here is a 30 minute drawing of some cloth.I placed the cloth on a mirror so i could create a more interesting composition and also create more interesting folds in the cloth.I started with the basic shapes of both objects until i was happy with the basic shapes and proportions.I then began shading in the creases, staring lightly and building up the tone in the darker areas of the creases. To finish of i used a putty rubber to bring out some of the highlights from the cloth, the mirror and the wooden frame that surrounded the mirror.
This is a 35 minute drawing of some cloth draped over clothes horse.
Looking at this drawing i should have drawn the clothes horse but i was trying to focus on the material.I started with the outline of the cloth making sure is was accurate to what i was seeing.I then began shading lightly and forming the creases within the cloth.I built up the tones trying to form a subtle transition bettween the darkest and the lightest tones. To finish of i brought out some of the highlights using a rubber.

Week 3

This picture took me 50 minutes.I tried to create an interesting composition using the rule of thirds.I started by creating a horizon line and a vanishing point, then drawing in the rough proportions so i knew that my composition would fit correctly on my page.Once i was happy with the draft i began adding more detail and then started shading areas.
This picture took me 1 hour.I wanted the tree to be the main focal point of the compostion and the bench in the bottom corner to stop the eye wondering off the page. I started by blocking out the basic proportions trying to ensure that everything fit nicely into my composition and the proportions worked well in relation to each other.Once i was happy with my line drawing i beagan to shade areas and add more detail to the brickwalls.
This was a quick sketch that took 20 minutes.Once again using the rule of thirds i tried to create an interesting compostion by having the viaduct intersect one of my points.I tried to create depth to my picture by having my garden wall as the foreground, the viaduct and trees as my middle ground and then drawing in the horizon faintly to create the background.

Week 2

This is a sketch of the forster eye clinic building. The drawing took just over 1 hour to complete. It is a
2 point perpective drawing.

I started by drawing in a rough horizon line which ran just under the air conditioning unit. Then using the sighting method i began measuring the propotions of the building.I used the measurements from nearest corner of the building to gauge the height of the roof and the length of the building, then after creating my 2 vanishing points i began to draw the outine of the buildings walls and roof.

Once i was happy with the shape i began to add more details like the windows and air conditioning unit.Once again i used the corner of the building as a base measurement for the windows.I then began to add some more detail to the brickwork of the building to try add texture to the sketch. I then began to shade the sketch by adding some dark and mid tones.

This drawing took 45 minutes. It is a 1 point perspective of a corridor in the green.I started by drawing a faint horizon line,as i was sat down in the hallway this was quite low. After creating my vanishing point i then began to draw some faint guideline from the vanishing point to the edges of my paper to create a rough shape for the corridor.I then began to add some of the details like the doors, frames and notice boards, making sure that they all ran a long my vainshing point guidelines.

This is a quick sketch that took 20 minutes.Although drawn with a ruler this was a good exercise for me and my first time drawing using a 3 point perspective.

Is started by drawing a horizon line and creating 2 vanishing points.I then began drawing two intersecting lines from each vp to create the roof of my first building. After creating my third vanishing point, i then began to draw in some of the walls.I left in the ruler lines to show how the horizontal and vertical lines connect to each vanishing point.

Week 1

This drawing took me 50 minutes.Rather than drawing one trainer i tried to create more of an interesting composition by using both trainers.I set the scene up outside and used the sun as my light source.I started by measuring the trainers using the sighting method and then drawing the outline of the  objects.I then began to add more detail and started with the shading adding the darkest tones first. The foreshortening of the trainer on the right was quite hard and although i felt like i had drawn it correctly it just didn't seem to look right. Finally i began drawing the cast shadow for the objects.I was quite happy with the proportions of the object but feel the overall picture was let down by the shading.

Here is a drawing of my computer chair that took about 1 hour.I started out by blocking out the basic proportions on my sheet but as i got further into the work and sighting some of the proportions were changed and then the chair no longer fit into my sheet as it was intended.

I used a lamp that was behind the chair to light my scene to create some shadow.I started by drawing the outline of the chair and then started to add more detail. Then i started to add the shadows on the arms of the chair and the base starting with the darkest tones first.I like the chair levers on this picture and the shading on the base but i feel overall the shading could have been better.

This drawing took me 1 hour.I used the lamp that i was using to light my scene as part of my composition.I tried to arrange the bananas in a way that created interesting shadows between them.

After sighting my objects i then roughly blocked out my scene and began drawing the outlines of my objects until i was happy with them.I then began adding more more detail and shading my picture.Starting with the darker tones i worked my way up to the lighter tones using a rubber to create some of the highlights in my picture. Finally i added the cast shadow for the fruit bowl and tried to create some texture to the wooden surface which my objects were placed on.I wanted to create some texture to the surface without adding too much detail but it didn't work very well.
